First playable

This week we were tasked to make a first playable version of our games, at first I totally panicked as I didn't believe I was anywhere close to that goal yet, but as I started to add more and more small things I quickly realized that had already achieved a great amount and my game was actually coming along better I had anticipated.

The things that I focused on this week were expanding my game road map, I added obstacles and added raged body physics and box colliders so that each element can interact with each other. in terms of the player controller I added a player controller script so the play can control the car. I also added a soundtrack of some old-school retro music.

Overall I think that my game is kind of playable in lose terms, I still have a lot of stuff that needs to be implemented.
Things that still need to be added are:

  1. A spawn manager to control the spawning of the vehicle and object obstacles.
  2. Refine the car controls and remove the ability to move the car forward and backwards
  3. Maybe a different scenes for character slecton and  minor improvement.
  4. Adding another camera angle perpective.

  1. Hey Francis been reading through all of your project developments so far and am really liking what I am seeing, really well done. I thought it was a great idea that you listed everything that you accomplished during the weeks projects task, love how I can see the development of the game really clearly. I also love the fact that you have added what you have accomplished so far, really good because we can see what we are going to see next week. I wonder though and this is just a suggestion because it is something that I do in my project tasks is adding a small video clip showing that everything is working properly and showing that you have a well functioning game here, just makes your development stages more clear for grading. Also what if for next weeks task you could add a main menu section to your project, trust me its really easy to make a main menu page plenty of tutorials on YouTube that can make this happen and most are only like 10 minutes. But overall really great progress keep it up and cant wait to see the finished product!!!

  2. Hi Francis!
    First off sick game!
I love the 80s vibe of the game it literally reminds me of GTA San Andreas.
I hope you are finding Unity easy.. Like your self I also panicked as I thought I was not even close but turned out I was doing pretty well, Thank God.
I am very excited to see how your game will turn out and no doubt will have a go at it.
Great work and keep it up.

  3. Hi Francis! I really like the colour elements of your game design. It seems like you have very professional looking assets, due to the quality of the sky background and the road with lamp posts. Have you thought of implementing moving obstacles that take on the theme of your retro style. Does the car make noises? Would you think of applying car noises to your assets. Overall very good looking game and I can't wait to see the finished progress. Will you have a scoring system in place, I have a very easy tutorial that I could show you if you wanted! - Anna Zurawska

  4. Hi Francis, wow your game is looking great so far! It looks like its coming together really well. I hope you don't mind but I am going to give you some feedback. First off, I really like the overall look of your game, like the back drop looks great with the overall theme of the game. How do you plan to make this game continually playable? Is the plan to make a map? or to have the road endless? Is there a way to win the game or does it keep going on and on?

You might want to consider adding maybe buildings or different scenery the edges of the road. This could make the game seem more realistic and dynamic when playing it.
Anyways, the game looks great so far, well done and good luck finishing it!

  5. Hi Francis, seems like your game is really kicking off! It looks like it's a really cool driving game and the style seems to be very unique. Will you be adding any goals or checkpoints to the finished version of your game? I think that if you were to add a goal to the end of your game at some point it might make the players want to strive for the best time even more due to the finality of a goal. I think that your game is very cool but one thing I noticed was the lack of scenery as there's no background image and just the road. It might end up taking players out of the emersion of the game if they can't see any scenery like there would be in real life. Over all though I like it and I can't wait to play it. Also one last thing, is there any music and will it be ambiance or will it be something different?

  6. Hi Francis your game looks great so far much better than mine at this stage. It looks like a driving game by the images I like how the colour of the car matches with the road and the backgound. Is there a map so the player can see where they are going or how do they know how to get around? Is there going to be any moving obstacles that the player as to avoid such as a person crossing the road maybe? I also need to work on spawnmanger next week again as I tried to this week and it wouldn't work . Overall your game looks great hope it works out for you. I- Niamh
